Guidance Session for 21st cycle of Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG Grant)

About: Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay organized a guidance session on BIG (Biotechnology Ignition Grant) with IIPH NIDHI TBI for Public Health, Gandhinagar and other Ecosystem Partners.

The purpose of the program was to guide the application process for the BIG Grant majorly for technology innovations in Biotechnology and allied spaces. The BIG Grant is a Fund support by BIRAC, that helps with a fund upto Rs. 50 Lakh to establish and validate the Proof of Concept for Ideas/ Technology with Commercialization Potential. The program saw good participation from incubators, independent researchers, scientists, academicians, entrepreneurs, innovators from the Biotech and allied domain, through the ecosystem partners.

Workshop – 3D Technology (Design & Printing) – 2

A workshop hosted by IIPHG NIDHI TBI in collaboration with Bio-Pharma Incubation Center – NIPER Ahmedabad on 22nd & 23rd February 2022  for NIPER-A students. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Dax Patel, Assistant Lab Technician IIPHG NIDHI TBI. 17 students attended the workshop. Sessions covered on Introduction to 3D printing technologies, Types of 3D printers, How FDM printer works, Slicing, Live Printing, Design Software introduction, SLA printer introduction, and Group Design Challenge during the workshop. All the participants were awarded E-Certificate of completion of the workshop along with a special 3D printed gift.

Plenary Session at ACIES 2021, IIPHG

About:

Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar organized ACIES 2021, which was the 4th Annual National Public Health Conclave with representation from academia, public health students, and experts. The flagship program is spread across 3 days between 21st and 23rd December at IIPHG Campus.

As a part of the Conclave, IIPHG TBI organized a plenary session with the title, “Startup Entrepreneurship for Health Professionals”, where the first part was a session on ‘Medical Professionals and Startup Entrepreneurship’ that talked about the scope of entrepreneurship in healthcare, available support system for entrepreneurs through the incubator, and the power of fundraising, delivered by Mr. Mayank Patel, CEO IIPHG NIDHI TBI.

The session was further followed by the founders/ founding members from startups including Dentnovation LLP, Hidaa Lifescience LLP and Hops Healthcare presenting their products/ services in their startup, their journey till here and the support they have leveraged through the IIPHG NIDHI TBI incubator. The session was quite interactive with a lot of startup enthusiasts tried to understand the different challenges at different stages of these ventures.

The intention of the programs was to be to promote and share the scope of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the field of Public Health.

Faculties from FDP on BioTechnopreneurship visit IIPHG NIDHI TBI

About: As a part of a Faculty Development Program on BioTechnopreneurship sponsored by GSBTM, Govt. of Gujarat and facilitated by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad; 20 bioscience, pharma allied domain faculties from across Academic Institutions in Gujarat visited the IIPHG TBI premise to understand the best practices to promote entrepreneurship in their respective institutions by guiding students to take up Entrepreneurship Biotech or Healthcare and allied domains as a career.

Through an interactive presentation facilitated by Mr. Dhaval Kaku, Sector Specialist at IIPHG TBI shared regarding the aspects including the criteria for facilitating innovations, incentives for the innovators, programs designed to facilitate startups, creating unique support system elements for the startups, the startups that are currently being facilitated by the Incubation Centre majorly highlighting the Support System created at the Incubation Centre and the avenues where the institution support of IIPHG also being leveraged for research and regulations.

Further Dr. Deepak Saxena, PI at IIPHG TBI and Prof. at Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar shared about being the Regional Resource Centre for Health Technology Assessment for DHR – Govt of India, which is resourceful for startups in healthcare with Clinical Validation (Regulatory aspect) and roll out of any Health Technology Related Product through the support of Government along with the current programs and initiatives being supported along with facilitating research through unique biotech, life science labs at the institution.

The faculties then explored the Co-working space, Prototyping labs under the Incubation Centre along with understanding the min. machinery required by startups that are into a physical product, the facilities could act as a full-fledged launchpad for the innovators trying to develop their products and ancillary systems.

A one-day workshop hosted by IIPHG NIDHI TBI in collaboration with Bio-Pharma Incubation Center – NIPER Ahmedabad on 23rd Oct 2021 from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM for IIPHG and NIPER-A students. About: Team IIPHG TBI visited IIT Gandhinagar Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IIEC) which is a Technology business incubator and the Technology Research Park(TRP) located within IIT Gandhinagar that has a mission to Foster techno-entrepreneurship through innovative and creative thinking using an interdisciplinary approach.

Through interaction with the Management team including Mr. Nirmal Jha (Advisor, Industry Partnerships) and Anand Pandey (Asst. Manager, Commercialization), IIPHG came across the existing support system and facility access created for innovators and startups; both within the campus and external and associated commercial model for the sustenance of their incubation center.

The team happened to explore the Co-working space, Tinkering Lab, Prototyping Lab, TRP facility for Industry and Established Organisations, Center for Creative Learning to understand the existing policies to utilize the same, existing frequency of usage of the facilities, access restrictions, etc.

Both the Incubation Centres took a step ahead in joining hands and creating an open supportive environment for their startups.

Shri Sudhir Mankad IAS (retd), former Chief Secretary Government of Gujarat visited of IIPHG NIDHI TBI

About:

Shri Sudhir Mankad IAS (retd), former Chief Secretary Government of Gujarat and an IAS from 1971 batch, served as Chair Person at IIPH and serves in Board of Directors at GIFT City, Gandhinagar. He visited the IIPHG NIDHI TBI today and the role of Incubator in supporting #startups in PublicHealth was shared with him. He had a quick glance at the startups supported by the incubator and appreciated their efforts towards creating commercial value and suggested changes for better industrial-customer adaptability of the products/services.
He also visited the FabLab facility and based on the output of SLA 3D printer he has envisioned a pain-free dental impression technology to be developed and deployed through the close association between IIPHG-TBI and the Dental Institutes in Gujarat.

About: A webinar was conducted by the IIPHG NIDHI TBI in collaboration with AIC (Atal Incubation Center) GTU on 31 st of May at 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM Noon on the topic Digital Fabrication for Medical Devices. The knowledge support was given by in-house expert Ahmad Ali. He very well explained the role of digital Fabrication skills and technologies in making of medical device development and the interesting case studies especially in the field of healthcare were very insightful for upcoming and existing health-tech start-ups. The audience showed keen interest and asked a lot of quality questions which were addressed at the end of the session also Mr. Ahmad from IIPHG NIDHI TBI was interacted with participants on the prototype and product development of healthcare sector.
